Result interface

How acknowledgements, statuses and results come back.

Inbound event kinds

  • ack
  • accession
  • specimen_status
  • result
  • report_metadata

Validation is deterministic and fail-closed: every inbound event must correlate to the exact laboratory, adapter, transmission and order, and an unknown event kind, unknown field or unknown specimen state is refused rather than reinterpreted.

Specimen status values

  • Collected
  • In transit
  • Received
  • Accepted
  • Rejected

Result versions and observations

  • Partial, final and corrected results are distinct append-only versions, never overwrites; a superseded version is retained with its provenance.
  • Observations carry what the laboratory supplied — value, unit, reference interval, flag, method, observation time — plus canonical mapping state. Values and units are not converted unless a validated normalization was recorded.
  • Terminology codes are reported only as supplied; a missing code is reported as not modeled and is never derived.

Important

Inbound requests use a timestamped HMAC signature, are constrained to the configured adapter, and are rejected outside a 300-second tolerance. Replayed identifiers, stale signatures, unknown fields and oversized bodies fail closed.

Reference laboratory engineering boundary

Reference/send-out is source-only and unavailable in Sandbox or Production. Existing integration, buyer, publication and clinical authorities remain unchanged; a directory listing or relationship never authorizes a referral.
